Male prostatitis can be bacterial or non-bacterial. The cause of the first are various pathogens: staphylococci, streptococci, gonococci, etc. Non-bacterial prostatitis occurs due to the influence of factors that cause blood stagnation in the pelvic area.
When the first signs of prostate inflammation appear, it is necessary to urgently consult a urologist. Only a specialist can determine the presence and type of prostatitis and prescribe its therapy with certain drugs.
Medical treatment for prostatitis in men is considered to be the most effective solution to get rid of this dangerous disease. It aims to:
- to eliminate the causes of the disease;
- stop the inflammatory process in the prostate;
- Relieve pain and cramps.
There are several groups of drugs that are used in drug therapy for the disease.
Groups of drugs
Drug therapy for inflammation of the prostate is carried out with different groups of active substances. However, only one doctor at a time decides on the drug treatment of prostatitis in men. He selects the necessary means depending on the form of the disease, as well as the nature of its course.
In most cases, treatment is carried out with:
- Antibiotics;
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
- antispasmodics;
- Painkiller;
- hormonal agents;
- Alpha blockers;
- Immunomodulators;
- Muscle relaxants.
The drugs used to treat prostatitis are used in various combinations, both in the acute form of the disease and in the chronic stage.
Antibiotics and NSAIDs
Antibiotics are prescribed to destroy the pathogenic bacteria that caused the disease and to relieve an acute or chronic inflammatory process. The form of release of these drugs can be tablets, capsules, injections and rectal suppositories.
In men, the treatment of acute prostatitis can be carried out with the following antibacterial drugs from the group of fluoroquinolones, which have a wide spectrum of activity.
For the treatment of chronic prostatitis, it is more advisable to use antibiotics from the tetracycline group or macrolides.
The average use of antibiotics to inflame the prostate is 2-3 weeks.
In case of ineffective antibiotic therapy or in case of a non-bacterial nature of the disease, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are prescribed.
NSAIDs actively suppress any inflammation, relieve swelling well and have pronounced analgesic properties. Because of the deleterious effects of these drugs on the patient's digestive system, short-term courses of treatment at weekly intervals are recommended.
Hormones
With prostatitis in men, there is a decrease in the erectile function of the penis. To restore it and normalize the endocrine system, hormonal therapy is prescribed. It is also necessary to get rid of the inflammatory process in the affected organ.
Alpha blockers
Prostatitis often causes urinary problems. Relaxation of the muscles is necessary to facilitate the flow of urine. For this purpose, the doctor prescribes the use of alpha blockers.
The drugs act on the sympathetic nervous system, which is necessary to control the tone of the smooth muscles of the bladder and urethra. After taking drugs of this group, the muscles relax, spasms are eliminated, and urine output is normalized. In addition, funds are needed to get rid of inflammation and pain when urinating.
Therapy for prostatitis with drugs of this group is carried out over a long period of time. They are usually appointed for at least six months.
Immunomodulators
After taking antibiotics for prostatitis, the body is in a weakened state. Along with harmful microorganisms, beneficial microflora are also killed. It is during this time that a man is most susceptible to infection. To reduce the likelihood of dangerous consequences, complications, viral and bacterial diseases, the necessary vitamins, elements and minerals are prescribed.
In order to strengthen the body, the intake of immunomodulators is important. They help to strengthen not only local immunity, but also the protection of the entire body.
Muscle relaxants
To reduce muscle tone, muscle relaxants are prescribed. They normalize blood flow so that the prostate juice is completely released. Means are also able to get rid of the pain syndrome.
Painkiller
When prostatitis occurs, many men experience severe pain syndrome, pain at the time of urination. All drugs with which the treatment is carried out will, to one degree or another, affect the source of pain. However, they are not always able to fully cope with unpleasant sensations.
If the pain syndrome is severe, pain relievers are indicated.
The drugs are available both in the form of tablets and in the form of injection solutions. Doctors note that it is better to act on the source of pain in a liquid form. Enemas are made on their basis. The composition quickly gets to the source of pain, which helps to cope with the pain syndrome in a short time.
Sedatives
A feature of prostatitis is not only the appearance of physiological changes. With a disease, a man suffers from a decrease in potency, problems with erectile function. The penis is not always ready for intimacy.
Men are starting to worry about this very much. After all, for many patients, violations in the sexual sphere are one of the most serious manifestations of the disease. Hence the patient's psyche suffers.
To restore the nervous system, sedatives are needed. They are also necessary when a man often has to be nervous and experience stressful situations in everyday life. Such phenomena have a negative effect on the already weakened organism.
If severe mental disorders are detected, sedatives are needed.
It is worth remembering that sedatives are taken for a short time. Finally, the body can get used to the constant absorption of active substances. If you exceed the dosage, various complications can arise.
Other means
There are other drugs that are prescribed for prostatitis as well. However, they are not considered essential remedies in the course of treatment.
Anticholinergics are necessary to normalize the process of urination, blood circulation and potency.
With the help of antihistamines, the swelling of the prostate tissue can be reduced. But it should be remembered that such funds are effective. Therefore, it is only prescribed by a doctor.
All drugs require a specific dosage regimen. It must be issued by a urologist when prescribing the treatment stages.
Rectal suppositories
Drug treatment of prostatitis is carried out with the mandatory use of rectal suppositories. Suppositories are more acceptable dosage forms as they act directly on the source of inflammation. In this case, pain and negative processes are quickly eliminated.
The components dissolve in the rectum and are immediately released from the bloodstream to the diseased organ. That is, the effect occurs after 15 to 20 minutes. This is especially true when the pain of the inflammation becomes unbearable.
Unlike suppositories, the same tablets or capsules get into the stomach first and then pass through the liver as they dissolve, losing some of the beneficial substances and properties.
In addition, suppositories are considered a safer form of medicine because they do not affect the functioning of the kidneys and liver.
The variety of rectal suppositories is quite large. They can contain:
- antispasmodics;
- Analgesics;
- Antibiotics;
- Beekeeping products;
- Components of the bovine prostate.
Suppositories are almost always based on coconut oil. Thanks to it, a quick absorption of medical components is guaranteed. Many of the capsules contain vitamins and minerals that help boost immunity.
Some men can only use suppositories, tablets are prohibited due to diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT).
Candles are only introduced after a cleansing enema has been performed. They must be inserted at least 2-4 cm. After the introduction, you need to lie in bed for about half an hour. The procedure can be done at home.
There are many drugs and techniques available to treat prostatitis. However, they are only effective in combination.
Of course, drugs for drug treatment have an effect, but recovery will be much faster if you add physiotherapy and folk recipes to them.
